315. Work work work Yuk Yuk Yuk

‘Good morning ! Happy new year!’ I shout cheerily as I enter the library (pompously called the center for information and documentation) as I am sure this will work here too.

It doesn’t.

I get a look that says what planet are you on to wish me this on the 10th of the month. The guy looks shocked and I worry he might have some kind of fit right here and right now. He sees the look on my face and changes his tune right away. He knows why I’m here. There’s a kid in a wheelchair in my class and his computer lab is the only one we have access too. At the beginning of the year it was all yeah sure come in whenever you need to and no, no need for booking ahead etc etc. Those were the new school year resolutions back in September when the sun was shining. Now in the depths of cold grey January it is a different story.

And then because I still have that look on my face he pushes his diary towards me.

'There you go! You do it, independent work, ha ha ha! I have 50 people coming (waving of the arms) and I have no coffee and nothing is ready  and this is just ... I've got no time for this. You write in the diary.'

He gives me a pen. I look at him as if I want to stab him with it and he moves away from me and disappears behind the philosophy bookshelf. I hear him sending people away and moaning about the lack of coffee.

The new me breathes in and out and focus on her inner self. I focal on my chakras and readjust my ki. All is good. I write in the diary and look around. There is a kettle on the window sill and it is boiling away.

I sigh. I am boycotting the inner mail system (one in 5) and so now I have to go see people. If this is the welcome I get I am going to start leaving bits of paper in their dookets like I used to back in my Scottish days.

I turn round and the room is empty. The 50 people are late, all of them and the kettle on the window sill is boiled. If that man knew anything about everything he would make tea instead of running around being rude to people. Anyway work is not getting any better in this new year.  When I get home I will draw the cards for 2023. And make tea.
