409. Beachbag

The kids must think they've got a weird teacher this year. Little do they know. They have not seen my Instagram story about setting myself the challenge to try to go to school for as long as I can with my beach bag.

It does not look at all professional. In fact I look like a holiday-maker lost in the school grounds. All I need is a camera. I could peer at the ancient brick and stone walls and the latin words above the doors and next thing I would be asked to leave the grounds for security purposes. Now wouldn't that be great?

The strange thing is that - so far - no-one has commented on my beach bag. (Only at the hair salon the other day when the assistant asked which bag was mine and I answered the beach bag people laughed and smiled at me the funny woman who was still on holiday mood.)

And my beach bag is the coolest ever. It is plastic (to cope with salty or bleachy water and sand - obviously) and it has white leather (yes, leather) straps. It has large green and orange flowers on it and in white letters it says ... medium beach bag! Now is that cool or not? (please let me know in the comments, I sometimes feel my readers are robots if they don't react and these days I think maybe they are!).

So here I am in school wearing Birkenstocks on my feet and a supercool beach bag on my shoulder (full of non-teaching stuff) and no-one bats an eyelid!

Honestly it's like a madhouse in there.

What is in my beach bag you wonder. Well, in my beach bag there is:

- a beach novel which has orange on the cover to match the flowers on the bag (title on request)

- sun glasses in their case just in case the sun really comes out

- keys (boring but essential)

- two board markers (I reluctantly added those on Tuesday, one is orange to match the flowers)

- a white scarf to make up for my summery outfit)

- a purse with some cash for coffee or beer on the square with the other tourists (the real ones)

- my phone and my laptop (digital nomads probably do that)

- a pencil (green to match and with sparkles on it)

I put my beach bag on the desk when I get into a classroom and I make sure I rummage in it now and then for a board marker or my phone. I don't carry any books or folders or notebooks, I don't write anything down, I don't hand out any papers ... This is what week one is going to be like. Just me and my beach bag.
