The reason why I mentioned the pop thing is because I think this has happened to Baby.
Truly.
She turned 18 and then she completely metamorphosed. It must be the pop thing. It must have gone pop in her head at midnight and then when she got up the following morning she had grown.
It started on the day of her birthday. After lunch we went for a drink in town to the bar where her brother is working for the summer holidays. He was quick to come and take our orders (Baby ordered a soft drink), but then a few minutes after our drinks were on the table he was back with his waiter-friends in toe.
'That's on the house, he said, for your 18th, specially mixed by Hugo.'
And he placed a shot glass in front of her. I was thinking Baby will not know what to do with that, she will peer into look and maybe look embarrassed or feel awkward. These thoughts of mine had not even had time to settle in my brain properly that she picked up the glass, looked at her brother, laughed, and downed it in a oner.
I was beside myself with shock and totally speechless.
Baby!
Then the following day she pestered me about shopping trips and ordering stuff online. I could not focus on what she was saying because I was still in a state of shock.
'And it's order two get two for free. I can have four and then match them with my outfit.'
I got out of the state of shock to fall straight back into an other. Baby wants to match her phone case with her clothes! How big was that pop thing at midnight?
And it goes on. She went out with her friends and she made me do her bun 5 times, using hair spray and telling me it had to be super tight. As if she was getting ready for a three-hour run of Swan Lake. And she was wearing I noticed a black crop top.
Maybe Baby is just not a Baby anymore.
