10. How long can I stay in bed and get waited on by my husband and children? (2/2)

Hello readers! (Plural, hey!)

Experiment failed. Or I failed at experiment. As all in life, it is a question of perspective.
Lunch was as expected, very good: scrambled eggs sprinkled with chives and black pepper on toasted home-made bread.

Then I got BORED.

I thought about reading. I quite fancied Anna Karenina but then it is on the book shelf somewhere and I would have to get up. (Now I am being obsessive again, see previous post. I am definitely learning things about myself and not good ones!)

So something in my bedside table: How to keep your teenager out of trouble and what to do if you can't (Dr Neil I. Bernstein). I remember buying it when singing daughter turned 13. My husband read it every evening and I remember he would read out passages aloud to me and say things like: 'Oh no! Do you think she'd be capable of that? Surely not!' or  'Yes! definitely, I can totally see that coming in her. Remember the other day when ...' or 'That chapter is your department' and marking it with a bit of tissue.

It definitely was a good help. She would say: 'Can I go to this party and sleep over?' And we'd look at each other knowingly, thinking we'd check the chapter on parties and alcohol and under-age drinking.
'Maybe ... we'll see. Dad and I will talk about it.' I would say with an innocent look on my face.

She'd stamp her feet all the way up the stairs going on about what could we possibly have to discuss. It was just a party. There was NOTHING to discuss, we did not have a clue! She was our first child and we were miles away from our home country and she was turning into a TEENAGER. 😱😱

The book stayed on the bedside table (it is still there) and looking back she did go wild in her own way and she did drive us mad.

Howards End is there too, very dusty but that might be the type of cover where the dust sticks, nothing to do with me not dusting or not reading proper literature.

Or wait a minute .... The Rosie Project (Graeme Simsion), yes that's it, really funny. Just what I need right now.

So I read that for a while but then the sun is shining and the birds are singing and it sounds as if the kids are creating havoc in the kitchen again so I cannot resist and I get up !

Fail!
